New affiliation with the East Wake Football League

Over the past year, the board of directors of the Sanford Sting conducted a study of other available youth football and cheer programs such as the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), the American Youth Football (AYF) Association, as well as the East Wake Football League as viable options for our association. Safety, organizational structure and accountability were some of the many factors considered, as well as transparency and a comfortable schedule. After careful consideration and debate, the board of directors unanimously determined that the EWFL presents the most ideal and logical option for our organization and its families.

Below are some of the key data points of the East Wake Football League.

  • Only one local governing body that has existed since 1968.
  • All of our teams, regardless of age group, will play at the same location every Saturday, games start at 4pm. At least 4 home games guaranteed throughout the season.
  • Rules and procedures are clearly defined in order to ensure compliance.
  • More realistic age and weight divisions that will allow our players to develop in their appropriate skill positions.
  • Also operates under USA Football safety guidelines and requires certification.
  • Volunteer coaches are still required state and national background checks.
  • Cheer program is designed for cheering during the football season with one EWFL competition in November. The Sting cheer program can request to participate in additional competitions once football season is over.
  • Schedule release in July in contrast to late August.
